How to Install a Rice Destoner Machine: Step-by-Step Guide

A rice destoner is a precision machine. Install it wrong, and you'll get poor stone removal no matter how good the machine is. Install it right, and it will run for years with minimal issues. This guide walks you through the entire process from unboxing to your first production run.

What You'll Need

• Flat concrete floor (minimum 2m x 1.5m clear space)
• Spirit level (digital preferred)
• Adjustable wrench set (10mm to 24mm)
• Rubber mallet
• Power outlet matching your machine's voltage (220V or 110V)
• Assistant (machines weigh 45-200 kg)

Step 1: Unboxing and Inspection

Baochi destoners ship in reinforced wooden crates. Before unpacking:

• Check the crate exterior for shipping damage. Photograph any dents or holes before opening.
• Verify the model number on the crate label matches your order.
• Open the crate carefully with a crowbar — don't use a saw near the machine.
• Remove all packing material and check the accessory box (sieve brush, spare belts, manual).

Inspection checklist:

• Sieve screen: no tears or dents
• Rubber springs: all 4 present and undamaged
• Motor: spins freely by hand (disconnect power first!)
• Belt: properly seated on pulleys
• Bolts: check 10-15 random bolts for tightness (vibration during shipping can loosen them)

Step 2: Positioning the Machine

The machine location matters more than most people think:

• Solid floor: Must be concrete, not wooden or raised platform. The machine vibrates continuously and needs a solid foundation.
• Level surface: Use a spirit level on all four corners. The machine should be within 1mm of level. An unlevel machine sends stones in the wrong direction.
• Clearance: Leave at least 50cm on all sides for maintenance access.
• Away from walls: The machine should not touch any wall — vibration transfer causes noise and wall damage.
• Feed and discharge paths: Plan where grain enters (top) and exits (two outlets — clean grain and stones). A gravity feed hopper above the machine saves labor.

Step 3: Leveling the Machine

This is the most critical step. An unlevel rice destoner cannot separate stones properly because gravity works against the vibration pattern.

1. Place the spirit level across the machine frame (left-right direction).
2. If not level, insert thin metal shims under the rubber spring mounts on the low side. Never use wood — it compresses over time.
3. Check front-back level. The machine should have a slight forward tilt (0.5-1 degree) toward the clean grain outlet.
4. Re-check after tightening all mounting bolts — the frame can shift during tightening.

Step 4: Electrical Connection

Safety first: All electrical work should be done by a qualified electrician.

• Verify voltage: Baochi machines come in 220V/50Hz (standard) or 110V/60Hz (on request). Check the motor nameplate.
• Install a dedicated circuit breaker (10A for 250W models, 16A for 550W+, 20A for 1500W).
• The machine must be properly grounded. A missing ground wire is dangerous and can cause motor damage.
• Test motor rotation direction: Briefly pulse the power. The pulley should rotate in the direction indicated by the arrow on the belt guard. If reversed, swap any two wires (3-phase) or check capacitor (single-phase).

Step 5: First Test Run

Run the machine empty for 10-15 minutes before feeding any grain:

• Listen for unusual noise — a smooth hum is normal. Grinding, rattling, or squealing means something is wrong.
• Check for excessive vibration — the machine should vibrate, but not "walk" across the floor.
• Check belt tracking — the belt should run centered on the pulley, not rubbing against the guard.
• After 10 minutes, touch the motor housing. Warm is fine. Hot to the touch (>60°C) means an electrical or bearing issue.

Step 6: First Production Run

Start with a small batch (20-30 kg) and inspect the output carefully:

1. Set the feed gate to 50% open.
2. Set the air damper to 50% open.
3. Feed grain slowly and observe: clean grain should flow from the lower outlet, stones from the upper outlet.
4. If you see grain at the stone outlet, close the air damper slightly.
5. If you see stones in the clean grain, open the air damper slightly.
6. Adjust in 5% increments and wait 2-3 minutes between adjustments.
